Is it possible to have a satisfying garden growing experience while living full time in an RV?
About a year ago (December 2017) my wife and I purchased a 40 ft 5th wheel, and moved in full time.
While neither of us considers ourselves to be “green thumbs”, we both (she more that I) enjoy growing things. Flowers, tomatoes, sprouts, etc.
So, put the desire to enjoy gardening, and living full time in an RV, and you have two people willing to research and experiment. And, one of us is willing to share our experiences as we learn and practice what we learn.
I’m starting this blog in the fall of 2018. This may not be the best time to get into gardening and blogging about gardening. On the other hand, why not garden year round?
Indoor gardening such as small plants and flowers, sprouts you can eat and etc., are all thing you can do year round.
You will be getting our perspective, climatically speaking, of gardening just South West of Portland Oregon. Some of you I’m sure will be in a completely different climate. Some much higher North (lattitudinally speaking) and some of you may be much lower.
Some of you may be quite stationery, living on your own property, or in an RV park. Some of you may be quite mobile, moving North in the Summer, and South in the Winter. Snow birds.
And some of you (I jealous) move constantly. A week here, a couple weeks there, and on the road again.
Whatever your particular situation, we hope you will stay tuned to our blog. Give us your input and advice and ideas. And a picture or two would be great too.
So, lets get started with the winding down of this year’s out door garden.
These pictures are of my wife’s flower/plant garden. Its (obviously) outside. It’s the last week of October 2018. We are in Dayton Oregon.
My wife’s advice? If you leave town for 10 days, and leave your husband to take care of your plants, have a back up plan. Since her husband is writing this post, that’s all we are going to say about that.
I will update this post with the names of these plants… but for now, you can call them Bob, Sue, Tom, Jim, Mark and Sally. I’ll let you guess which is which.
What’s next for these soon to be pathetic plants? Will they go dormant and then grow back next spring? Some of them will. Most will be dependent on how good we are at taking care of them.
My wife and I already talked about next year. And we don’t want to exclude other than flowers. Maybe tomatoes, maybe herbs, maybe veggies.
But what about this winter. We might just try something easy indoors. What do you think about sprouts?
We haven’t done sprouts for a long time… hopefully it’s like riding a bike, and no learning curve required. Now to decide… alfalfa? Lentils? Beans? All the above?
Here we go! expect photo’s soon.
